Sesto Oh Sh!t Kit — Extensive Trauma Kit

The Oh Sh!t Kit is the one you grab first and think about second. It is built around the injuries that kill people before an ambulance arrives — catastrophic bleeding, an obstructed airway, a punctured chest — and then padded out with the ordinary stuff, because most days it is a cut hand and not an artery.

That combination is deliberate. A trauma kit you never open, because everything in it feels too serious for the job at hand, is a trauma kit you have never practised with. This one gets used.

Vehicle, range, job site, garage, trailhead. Anywhere the gap between the injury and the ambulance is measured in minutes rather than seconds.

The marker is not an afterthought

Two things in here are for whoever treats the patient after you. The marker is for writing down the time a tourniquet went on — straight onto the patient, on the forehead if that is what it takes. The chemical lights are so the kit, or the casualty, can be found in the dark. Neither costs anything. Both change what happens next.

What expires

The hemostatic gauze, the chest seals and the sterile dressings all carry expiry dates. Check them once a year on a date you will actually remember — a birthday works better than a calendar reminder you will snooze.

Refills are sold separately, in the same parts and the same sizes, so you are replacing what you used rather than guessing at a substitute.

Training

This kit is not a substitute for training. Knowing where a tourniquet goes, how high, and how tight is the part that saves the limb, and no product teaches it. Take a Stop the Bleed course — they run free or close to it in most places, and they take an afternoon.

We would rather say that than sell you the idea that owning the kit is the same as knowing how to use it.
